A university-based lecture on Depression was held in partnership with Integrated Lifestyle and Wellness (ILAW) Center of Miriam College in Quezon City last August 2. Well-known author and child psychologist, Dr. Ma. Lourdes “Honey” Carandang, gave a lecture entitled “Depression: What We Need to Know” to a crowd of 1,020 Miriam College students from the departments of Psychology, International Studies, Culinary Arts, International Politics, Applied Arts, Communication Arts, Accountancy, Biology, Business Administration, Child Development and Education, Entrepreneurship, Environmental Planning and Management, Leisure and Tourism Management, and Social Work. There were also 296 guests from the faculty, parents and the community.
A few weeks after the lecture, ILAW Center reported to NGF that there was a notable increase in number of students who requested counseling in their facility, proof that the activity raised the awareness of the students in dealing with symptoms of depression.
